Synopsis

This country brief and accompanying data sheet compiles publicly available information on subsidies to fossil fuel production and consumption in Germany between 2014 and 2016.

The study shows that Germany is falling behind in meeting its commitment to phase-out this support by 2020, as pledged by the European Union and its Member States.

This is a background briefing paper to the report 'Phase-out 2020: monitoring Europe's fossil fuel subsidies' and provides a baseline to track progress on the phase-out of fossil fuel subsidies in Germany as part of the global transition to clean energy.
