Synopsis

How can the UK government institute a more integrated approach to promoting peaceful, secure, resilient and prosperous societies across the developing world?

There are considerable complexities for the UK government in addressing the sources and mitigating the impact of fragility and conflict globally - while balancing trade-offs between the UK's aid and security objectives. ODI and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) have explored recent experiences of collective government working on aid and security with senior officials to identity how tensions between these areas might be better managed.

This briefing outlines five areas for action that could promote a more integrated and effective UK government approach to aid and security.
