Political partnership with the South

Partnership has become a prominent feature of development cooperation. The European Union (EU) has longstanding partnerships with other regions in the world, not only with the African, Caribbean and Pacific group (the ACP) but also with other regional groupings, like the Mercado del Sur (Mercosur) in Latin America, or the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). This paper will focus on the nature of such partnerships.
