The cost of oil to the developing Commonwealth
Keywords:
Economics, Private sector, Trade & investmentSynopsis
This paper considers the impact of the rapid rise in oil prices in the final quarter of 1973. The paper estimates the immediate effect of these rises, showing that they will have a much more severe impact on developing countries than their industrialised counterparts. It considers the abilities of non-oil-producing developing countries to finance the additional costs from foreign earnings and other resources.
